Pine was my first real success as a business owner: a short-term rental management company that grew to 25 properties and more than doubled its revenue in a single year. From the outside it looked like it was working. Inside, every decision ran through me: pricing, guest problems, turnovers, payroll. I was working late at my kitchen table, handling the work that nobody else knew how to do because the systems lived in my head.

So I started building systems to get my time back, and to get the business running better than I could run it myself.

I documented the work, created repeatable processes, hired people into clear roles, and built visibility into what was happening without needing to personally manage every detail. Eventually, Pine could run without me being involved in everything.

That experience changed the way I thought about business. I realized that being the bottleneck isn’t a personal failure: it’s what happens when a business grows faster than its systems.
